About the Project
We were contacted by Jacob Church, the technology director of Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Church about upgrading their current lighting system and adding color changing LED’s
to their stage area. Jacob wanted a real concert feel added to the lighting system
and the visual element of worship to be enhanced. Mt. Pleasant has a beautiful multi-purpose
room that functions as the church sanctuary and a gymnasium among other things. The
stage is recessed into the wall and had a great traditional lighting system, with
Source Fours and ETC pars, along with an ETC 1248 lighting console. The first thing
we did was focus the traditional fixtures, using a four-point lighting scheme. We
decided to add a variety of LED’s to the stage area from the Chauvet colordash line
of fixtures. We placed six Battens as sidefills, six Blox to illuminate different
stage areas, and two Quads for cyc lighting. We also installed a Chameleon scrim
as a backdrop in pearl gray to give the stage a highly reflective backdrop for high
color saturation. We decided upon a dual controller approach to the system. We left
the ETC in place to control the traditional fixtures, and installed Martin Lightjockey
as the controller for the LED’s. We then programmed Lightjockey in a way to make
it extremely user-friendly. Each key on a PC keyboard controls a different color,
or color effect. The folks at MPBC are really happy with the outcome of the system
as it works great with their IMAG system and adds tremendously to the visual aspect
of the church worship services!
